Toddler Activity: Baking

I do not enjoy baking from scratch. That I mean, measuring everything out, making a HUGE MESS and following more than three dot points also known as instructions before the batter gets placed in the oven. Thank goodness, there are cake / cookies / muffins mixes ready to go! *phew*

Therefore, what does one do on a public holiday with two restless toddlers still in their pyjamas? Well, we bake of course!

It's a great activity for the kids and for them to feel like they are part of the action - they get to sit on the kitchen island alongside the mix master! I deftly open the magic red box, empty its contents and place the other "fresh ingredients" of water, butter and eggs along with it. Turn on the switch and let the electric beaters do their expert mixing while all of us look on in amazement.

Then I get the twins to place the paper muffin cases into the tin {teaching opportunity} and before pouring out the expertly mixed batter, I have to adjust / replace some of the paper cases because inevitably one or two will get squashed by their chubby fingers.

Now the bonus of this entire activity is ... the kids gets to lick the beaters! While they are licking distracted, I place the muffin tray into the oven, wash up very quickly and clean down the surfaces.

There you go. It's not bad at all, For next to no preparation, the kids were entertained and we all got to eat cup cake.
