The topic of favourite foods is often the subject of conversation with my small handful of asian friends who, thankfully, are incredibly competent cooks who from time to time will re-create some of my favourites. There are also ready made packet mixes which are pretty authentic which makes it very easy for me to prepare on the odd occassion.
Somehow, it just isn't the same hence I don't crave for them here in Australia and prefer to enjoy them when I am back in Singapore every other year. Here are my TOP 8:
Barbecue Sting Ray served on banana leaf and generously topped with assam sambal chilli and squeeze of fresh limes
Barbecue squid served on banana leaf and generously topped with assam sambal chilli and squeeze of fresh limes.
Barbecue Satay (chicken, beef and mutton) served with yummy peanut sauce, fresh red onions, cucumbers and ketupat (steamed savoury rice wrapped in leaves).
Stir-fry eggplant in assam sambal chilli
Steamed chee kueh topped with savoury radish cooked in lard
Noodles in a chilli vinegar sauce topped with fish balls
Fish head curry with tomatoes, egg plant and ladies fingers
Tropical fruit galore!!!
I look forward to checking out the local hawker centres as well as food courts for all the yummy local food which will be washed down with a refreshing glass of freshly squeezed sugarcane juice! YUM.
